The Hong Kong Diaries

So this post has been sitting on my drafts for roughly a month now.... I thought I have already posted this..

It was raining when we left Philippines that Monday morning but a warm, summer heat welcomed us in HK. Instead of taking the Airport Express to reach the city, we rode the bus, and the ride from the airport to our accomodation is more like a city tour. After resting and fixing things in our hotel room, we rode the MTR to Admiralty and walked along the HK park to reach The Peak Tram station. There was a really long queue for both the ticket booth and the station entrance. After queuing for roughly an hour and a half, we were finally able to ride the tram that will take us at 'the peak'. However we were standing for the whole 5 minute ride due to the heavy crowd. Anyway, the road up to the peak is very unusual. It was on the mountainside which is really steep, with an angle of about 80°. Then the tram was just pulled by a string up and down the mountain. (similar concept with the cable cars) It was a bit uneasy to stand on the last row, looking from behind, as you go up the mountain, you could see how deep you would fall down if ever. When we reached the top, we were wowed with what we've seen: a picturesque view! You would appreciate the view more when the sun has finally set. Before heading home, we had dinner in one of the food shops in Tsim Sha Tsui then went to iSquare to buy 阿布大哥's CD.

It was a hot and sunny day when we went to Disneyland that day. Going to Disneyland, you'll get to ride one of the cutest trains of all - the Disneyland MTR line. Inside are royal blue cushioned chairs, Mickey-inspired windows and models of our favorite Disney characters! I was so excited to see that 小小大人物!We arrived there early that the gates hasn't opened yet. Since it was really hot that day, we've decided to try first all the indoor attractions. Thinking that Disneyland is primarily designed for kids, we've never thought that we'd find rides designed for adults. We enjoyed Astroblaster, the Buzz Lightyear inspired ride, fighting over the evil Emperor Zurg, as well as the most suspense-filled rollercoaster ever, the Space Mountain. Why suspense filled? You never know what'll happen next for you are in total darkness. I'm just so glad it didn't drop us from top but I still would like to see how the whole track looks like as it has a lot, I repeat, A LOT of sharp curves. Anyway, this space wouldn't be enough if I tell you every opinion I have on each if the attractions we've tried, but one thing's sure, we've enjoyed even the childish, baby-ish Winnie the Pooh Storybook ride, it's worth queueing 45 minutes! Of course I didn't miss the chance to meet and greet the Disney characters! Although I only get to meet Minnie and Goofy, at least I've seen them all on the parade. I just felt sad that I didn't get to take a picture with my all-time fave Disney character Stitch. After a whole day of walking and queueing, we've watched the highlight of the day - the fireworks display on the Sleeping Beauty castle. Every guest in Disneyland is like compelled to watch it. We're lucky enough to get a good 'seat' on the flower fence haha! It was really a tiring but fun day. I wish I could return there again.

Since we were all tired, everyone got up late today. After having brunch in our hotel room, we went to Macau thru the ferries in Tsim Sha Tsui. The ferry ride from HK to Macau is about 2-3 hours, depending on the weather. We arrived to Macau at around 1pm. After clearing from the immigration and customs, we had a free bus ride to the famous Venetian hotel. You'll find yourself gaping as soon as you enter the lobby. It was really, unbelievable. No matter how many times you've seen it on TV or pictures, it's still a different feeling when you were there in person. (The ceiling paintings gives me a feeling that I'm in a church, btw.) The restrooms, wow! The whole area, just for one restroom, is bigger than our house! Wow! The restrooms are clean, so clean that you could really sleep on the floor. It doesn't even look like a restroom at all! Then on the second floor is their mall, the one which was designed after Venice. When we reached that place, the only word you'll say is wow! As in! No words could explain how it feels to be there in person. There was also a huge sale and it the prices there are way cheaper than back home. Imagine shopping for branded clothes in a world-famous mall for half the price back home?! If only I had lots of $$$! (The price of being poor!) Too bad we only had a few hours to stay in Macau. (Ferry tix becomes expensive when sun sets) Aside from The Venetian, we were advised to visit The City of Dreams as well as the Galaxy hotel. However, 5 hours isn't even enough to stroll The Venetian. I hope we could return to Macau.

After having dinner in HK, we strolled to The Avenue of Stars, took some pictures, then went back to our room as the rains has started pouring.

We were supposed to visit Shenzhen today however we were told that PH passport holders are only allowed to enter Shenzhen if we got the Visa back home. So we instead spent the day shopping and attending the Christian meeting in the afternoon. The English congregation we attended have their meetings only once a week, and has their Public Talk once a month due to the lack of males. Their mic servants and attendants are actually females. I'm not discriminating, it's just my first time seeing that arrangement. Hehe... Actually we lost our way going to their Kingdom Hall. Instead of riding the bus, we rode the tram and that ride became like a mini city tour in the Hong Kong island.

The rains became more frequent that day. It turned out that a typhoon signal number 3 was announced that day. We were like 'signal 3, walang masyadong ulan at hangin? 3 na yun sa kanila?' We learnt the answer to that question the next day..

It was our last day. Woke up late, packed stuff, and checked out. There was a Filipina employee in the hotel and told us 'ingat kayo, signal number 3 ngayon, pero di naman ma-cancel flight nyo nyan, mahina lang naman ulan. hanggang 8 ang signal dito.' Oh, okay.. So that's why. It was raining almost the whole morning, but the heavy rains poured down when we're already in the airport. We were 7 hours early! Haha! Eat. Window shop. Eat. Sleep. Watch youtube. Eat. Walk around. Take pictures. Eat. That's how we spent the 7 hours waiting for our flight. The plane was supposed to take off at 7:30 but there was a flight delay due to the rains and ours took off at around 9:30 - two hours delayed. We're still thankful that it was cancelled as two flights - both going to Mainland - are cancelled that day. We touched down in PH at around 11:30pm. And that how my longest weekend ends. How I wish we could have another trip like that next year.
