It has almost been three months since my last Cebu trip. I have been busy with work and life and other stuff and so I wasn't able to share highlights of that trip.
The Philippines is a country with rich and colorful history. The country may seem too "Americanized" in modern times, yet traces of the Spanish era is still evident in the country's language, food, culture, even in architecture. That is not too surprising since the Philippines was under the Spanish rule for three centuries. That said, it is not uncommon then to see houses from the Spanish era in one town or the other. But seeing those houses standing side by side along the cobblestone roads where kalesas pass by, that is something else.
Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar (or Houses in the Philippines by Acuzar) takes you back in time, to the 18th century when the country was still under the Spanish rule. Inside the 400-hectare resort are roughly around 60 casas. Most of the houses are made from the original materials, built plank by plank and column by column. Other structures, however, are only replicas as the original ones were destroyed during wartime.
"Anong makikita mo dun?"
(What would you see there?)
"Wala kang mapupuntahan dun."
(There's nothing to visit there.)
"Mas maganda pumunta sa [insert some other country here]"
(It's actually better to visit [insert some other country here])
Those are just some of the things I hear from people whenever I tell them I want to go to Taiwan. True, it wasn't only until recently I realized Taiwan has a lot to offer other than fangirling.
Eating on the bathtub sounds normal still. What about sipping your iced tea from a urinal or washing your hands on a toilet, and then eating shit? Sounds exciting?
I promised myself two years ago that I will not hike/trek again, that my trip to Palos will be my last. But promises are all made to be broken, most especially when it is for nature's gems. Hence, last Saturday, 23rd January, I, together with 11 other former colleagues, embarked on a journey that is surely unforgettable.
I had an early five-day holiday even before the official holidays begin
because my family went to an out-of-the country trip to Hong Kong and Macau. It was my third time in Hong Kong, and I already feel confident travelling there alone sometime in the future.
Five years ago, we traveled in Ilocos.
Five years later, we are here to go and see places we didn't visit then, and the places we visited and see how much has changed.
I know, I am posting this late. I never realized until I checked my blog today.
I ended 2014 and started 2015 on a trip. Mum has always wanted to see Mayon volcano, most especially during the days when it's active, so she set this trip in hopes of seeing Magayon in person. On the other hand, I don't care about the volcano or whatever. I don't even know what we can see in Albay. In fact, this place is not in my to-visit list. But I wanted a break and went with them anyway.
Cebu is never listed as one of the places I must visit. Why? Because I really have nothing to see there other than century-old churches and malls. If it wasn't for those free hotel vouchers my parents got from [insert name of company here], then I wouldn't bother going there.
This year's January is a blast! It's filled with lots of mini lunch outs (eh sa anlapit lang ng sm sa office... And madalas na kami sabay-sabay ng lunch!) and few getaways here and there.
"Where I want to go this month:" That welcomed me on my planner as March begun. I wrote there "somewhere in the north" hoping I'd go to Baguio this month. Sadly, I wasn't able to go to Baguio this month, but still, my "goal"of going somewhere in the north is achieved!
It's been almost a month since my last out-of-the country vacation and I have always felt really lazy to blog about it although I have already blogged some of it on tumblr.
We visited 3 cities from 2 countries during our 5 day vacay, and I'd say I enjoyed a lot during those days..
