Lollipop 5.1 running in the veins

I was surprised to have received the update OTA couple of days ago. The update wasn't even under my radar, so I was a bit hesitant to do it.

Updated the phone OTA last Saturday

I upgraded too soon anyway, which I somehow regret. I should have waited a bit longer, waited for feedback most especially with the bugs. I did read feedback btw, but most of what I read is that the upgrade improved its performance, most especially with the battery in Z1 Compact. (As to why and how I had the z1c, that's a different and long story..)

I'm not really into tech reviews, nor I am expert on that. But here are some things I noticed after the upgrade

Calendar

Calendar with LinkedIn integration

This is one of the features marketed along with the 5.1 update. I don't have LinkedIn, so this is of no use for me.

Messaging

Stickers with Messaging? Sounds cool

Yes, you read it right! You can now send stickers thru messaging! I haven't tried it yet so I don't know how the message will be like in the recipient's end. Where could you get stickers? The stickers which you downloaded from the sketch app will be the same set of stickers you could use for messaging.

One thing that annoys me with messaging is that my contact photo doesn't appear.

Dad's photo is still there, but mine's gone.

All I have is the default photo for the contacts, even though I have my photo updated in contacts.

Update (2015.10.20)
I got my photo fixed! Simply don't save your number on the phonebook, and you'd see your photo on your outgoing messages. 😊

I'm using the Hello Kitty theme 😊

Dialer

Revamped dialler?

Tbh, I'm not sure whether this is highly revamped or it has been like that since 5.0. But the font color changes depending on your theme. I'm using the green theme, hence the numbers are colored green.

Camera

This app is what I am mostly annoyed at. The camera quality is all fine. The problem is when you open the gallery directly from the camera app (to view and instantly share pics) then goes back to the camera app, you'd get this error:

....which is annoying because I have to reset the phone just to use the camera again.

Upon reading on the Xperia Support forum, all I need to fix this error is to re-install the software, which means I have to backup everything I have, which is a hassle.

After reinstalling the software via PC companion, the camera is working perfectly again. :)

Home Screen

Sony added a few changes on the home screen settings:

Sony added the Home Settings icon...

...which lets us rotate the home screen (finally!) and change the icon size.

Pressing the volume rockers up or down gives an option to change the volume for either of the three

Performance

So far, my phone is running faster than the previous days. I'm just not sure whether it is really because of the upgrade, or because everything I had was deleted when I reinstalled.

Power Management

This is something that most people liked with the new update, and I'd say that Sony did a better job on this one. I can now survive a day without charging! Moderate to heavy usage now just requires me to charge the phone once a day, unlike before when I have to charge my phone 2-3 times.

So far, those are the only changes that I noticed with the 5.1 update. Anything that I notice different will be shared in this same post. :)
