Be cool, Bicol

lunch at the airport

I know, I am posting this late. I never realized until I checked my blog today.

I ended 2014 and started 2015 on a trip. Mum has always wanted to see Mayon volcano, most especially during the days when it's active, so she set this trip in hopes of seeing Magayon in person. On the other hand, I don't care about the volcano or whatever. I don't even know what we can see in Albay. In fact, this place is not in my to-visit list. But I wanted a break and went with them anyway.

The rains fall heavy during those four days. It was even raining non-stop on new year's eve that we spent the night in the hotel room. There were less fireworks that eve because of the rains. We were only able to go out the next morning, when the rains stopped for a couple of hours. We went to the Cagsawa ruins, hoping to see the best view of Mayon. But Magayon never showed up. She's covered by thick white clouds from half up.

We had our lunch at Camalig, where the best Pinangat are said to be from. Pinangat is similar to Laing, made from gabi leaves with gata. I don't eat Laing so don't expect me to eat Pinangat. What I tried is Bicol Express which is really yummy! The authentic Bicol Express doesn't have bagoong unlike those that you buy here. (Which always make me wonder whether I really am eating Bicol Express or Binagoongan.)

It was raining heavy that afternoon while having lunch at Camalig. The rains continued until evening which ruined our travel plans. We just stayed in the hotel room again the whole afternoon until the electricity was cut. (Power interruption in where we stayed seemed normal, with three to four interruptions a day. So annoying!) That's when we decided to visit Embarcadero, upon ate Gerbie's recommendation. Most of the shops in Embarcadero at that time were closed though. Perhaps it was either because of the heavy rains or it was the first day of the year. It was an open-air shopping center, similar to Paseo de Santa Rosa. The thing is we weren't able to explore the place because of the rains.

Going home, we had a quick stop at Miriam's sister's place in Daet, Camarines Norte. We had a quick chat with her family with matching seafood lunch.

If you ask me if I enjoyed my stay, I'd still say I did, a bit. If it wasn't for the rains and power interruptions, I would have enjoyed my stay more. I hope I could travel more this year.
